Stryke's Scoop August 2021

It's been a full year of Stryke's Scoop. Very nice.

July Highlights

  • Finally registered for triathlons

    • Non-refundable $500 (genius!) to Ironman for the 70.3 in Indian Wells, CA on Dec 5th.

    • Local sprint triathlon on September 11th.

  • Exploring property along the Colorado front range.

  • Visits from friends and family

    • My brother and sisters came out to visit Denver for a weekend. Multiple friends also made the trip and consequently fell in love with the Mile High City (see above... I mean how can you not?).

Literature

The Power of Broke by Damond John

Key Takeaways:

  1. Use all available resources.

  2. Be authentic in everything you do.

  3. Understand time’s scarcity and linearity.

  4. Solving someone else’s problem will reward you in the marketplace.

  5. Dedicate your passion towards what you are doing in the present.

  6. Genuinely appreciate everyone you come across.

  7. Think beyond the here and now, but don’t forget about the present.

  8. Logically justify every decision.

  9. Expect success: make it a given part of your thinking.

I've started writing better summaries for all my books, which can be found under my Resources tab. Read the full summary of The Power of Broke here.

Struggles

  • Finding a damn bike.

    • Wow… after calling over 20 stores and surfing the internet for nearly three days last week, I sourced a bike to train for the triathlons out of Los Angeles. Because shipping would’ve essentially doubled the price of the bike, I decided to drive out to get it – woohoo.

  • Not being sore.

Shoutouts

  • Ryan – BIGGG Olympics guy! Loved watching you play over in Tokyo – I can only imagine all the fun you had. It was awesome seeing you dominate and hit a few bombs for team Israel. L’chaim!

  • Kidd – Getting to use your bike in the interim has been immensely helpful. Thank you for letting me borrow the bike and cleats. Also - congrats on the new baby!

  • Mom – Thank you for driving out to LA with me to get the bike. Woohoo!

Closing Thoughts

  • If anyone in the Denver metro wants to start training with me (swimming, biking, running, or even hiking) let me know! Always fun to have a training buddy.
